About This Spot

Raul's Casa Sombrero feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood haven where the pace slows just enough to invite genuine connection and comfort. Nestled along the lively stretch of Hawthorne Boulevard, this modest Mexican restaurant exudes a relaxed charm—a place where the hum of conversation and the welcoming smiles of the staff make you feel more like a friend than a guest.

The atmosphere here is quietly warm, with the subtle buzz of a local spot that’s embraced by its community. It’s the kind of place where you can savor a meal without rush, whether you’re catching a quick bite before an appointment or settling in to share stories over a plate of something richly satisfying. There’s a calm familiarity in the air, underscored by the friendly attentiveness of the team, making every visit feel both effortless and personal.

Food at Raul’s Casa Sombrero is woven into the fabric of the experience rather than presented as a checklist. From the comforting warmth of dishes like hearty burritos with perfectly matched sauces to the fresh crispness of chips dipped into salsa that’s crafted with care, every bite carries a sense of home. Whether it’s a midday fajita or a simple taco salad enjoyed during happy hour, the flavors invite you to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Here, the inside-outside blend of traditional and everyday is palpable: robust reds and greens on the plate, a thoughtfully casual setting, and the natural flow of laughter and conversation. This is a space where everyone—locals and newcomers alike—find a reason to return, drawn not just by the food but by the genuine atmosphere that quietly encourages you to stay a little longer.

First visit, nice atmosphere. It was not crowded when I went yesterday. I need to start learning names to give them credit for their service. I did take out and the lady was very nice. I had the enchilada plate dinner, it was very delicious and dessert was included. I choose a slice of cheesecake, yummy. I usually take pictures, but I was hungry and I'm glad the food was good. Love that a dessert is included. I'm going back to try other things on the menu.

I had the smothered chile verde burrito and it was amazing! Perfect balance of spicy, tangy, and hearty — super filling and full of flavor. The chips were fresh and crispy, and while the salsa was just okay, everything else more than made up for it. The service was friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back!

I was waiting for my hair appointment across. And decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. I try the ceviche and it definitely hit the spot. Food arrived fast and my server was so sweet. Prices were reasonable. Would be coming back with family

If you’re looking for the BEST mexican food in the area, look no further. Raul’s has been my go to spot for years now and it’s for good reason. It never fails to exceed expectations and heavily satisfies that craving that you’re looking for. My personal favorite that I highly recommend is their hot shredded beef enchiladas layered with a bed of sour cream with fresh rice and beans on the side. It does it for me everytime and the quality is out of this world! It also has a pristine & traditional environment that captures the essence of the Mexican culture, making it well rounded not only with just their food, but with their setting. Without a doubt a must visit location for high quality Mexican food. You will not be disappointed!

Real authentic Mexican food. The combination plates are a good way to explore their delicious food.
